What to Expect on a Maldives Surf Safari: Life Aboard

A Maldives surf safari brings your accommodation, your surf days and your travelling companions together on one boat. You spend the journey on the water, with time to surf, recover and enjoy the company aboard. The pace feels different from an island stay: your days follow the ocean rather than a hotel routine.

Here is what life aboard our Central Atolls safari looks like, from choosing the day’s waves to settling into your cabin.

A route that follows the conditions

Swell and wind shape the journey. Our experienced local surf guides help choose suitable breaks, and the route adapts to weather, sea conditions and the group’s abilities.

That means leaving room for the day to unfold. Some stretches of the trip involve cruising; others offer more time in one surf area. A flexible itinerary allows the team to make thoughtful decisions without being tied to a fixed list of breaks.

Guided surfing, coaching and daily video analysis

Surfing is at the heart of the safari. Local guiding helps you get to know the waves, while coaching gives you a more personal focus in the water.

Daily video analysis adds another perspective. A wave can feel very different from how it looks on screen. Watching your sessions can help you notice your positioning, timing or movement, then take a clear idea into your next surf. Photography and videography are also included, giving you a record of your time in the ocean.

The trip is designed for intermediate to advanced surfers who can surf independently. If you are unsure whether it suits your experience, our guide for intermediate surfers is a useful starting point.

Yoga and room to recover

There is more to a good surf trip than the hours spent paddling. Our yoga sessions focus on mobility, flexibility, balance and recovery, with movement adapted to the group.

Yoga is optional and suitable for all levels. Join a session when you feel like moving, or take the opportunity to rest. Finding a pace you can enjoy throughout the trip matters more than filling every moment.

Your cabin aboard Moonima

Moonima is our home for the journey. Guests stay in shared twin cabins with air conditioning and private ensuite bathrooms. Between surfs, there is time to relax on deck, share a meal or enjoy a quiet moment in your cabin.

With a maximum of eight paying guests, the experience stays personal. Solo travellers are welcome, and sharing a boat makes it easy to get to know the people around you. If you have questions about cabin sharing or life at sea, speak with our team before booking.

Meals, transfers and the practical details

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included throughout your stay aboard, along with tea, coffee and 1.5 litres of bottled water per person per day.

The safari also includes surf transfers by dhoni, local island visits, group airport–boat–airport transfers, and applicable charter taxes, including Green Tax. The journey begins and ends in Malé, with group transfers from Velana International Airport (MLE).

International flights, alcoholic beverages and personal expenses are additional. Before arranging your flights, contact us about the group’s arrival and departure logistics so your travel plans fit the transfers.

  • Discuss your board and equipment arrangements before packing.
